Fish & Wildlife
Wildlife is abundant in the lake and around the lake – fish, ducks, loons, eagles, turtles, frogs, beavers, groundhogs, bears, moose, and more.
Stinson Lake is nature’s paradise. Remember that we humans must be good neighbors to the wildlife in our community. Please Don’t Feed Any Wildlife, including the ducks.
Fishing
NH Fish & Game stocks the lake annually in late April/early May with Rainbow Trout. The lake is recorded as also having Brook Trout, Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Yellow Perch, Brown Bullhead and White Sucker. Consult NH Fish & Game Stocking Report for more information https://www.wildlife.nh.gov/fishing-new-hampshire/stocking-report.
A general fishing license is required for those 16 and older. More information can be found on the NH Fish & Game website https://www.wildlife.nh.gov/fishing-new-hampshire.
Loons
Stinson Lake has been fortunate to have loon couples call our lake home for many years. These amazing swimmers with their mesmerizing calls have captivating our community.
Keep your eyes out for these fascinating birds and please remain at a distance from them. The loons return to the lake after ice-out and stay until ice-in when they will head to the coast for the winter.
Our SLA volunteers have been working with The Loon Preservation Committee for several summers with the placement of the loon nest to help the loons in their breeding efforts. Signs are placed each year in the lake designating the nesting area, which also serve as reminders not to disturb the nesting sites.
Support the loon population by maintaining distance from their nests and please use lead free fishing tackle. Lead kills loons!
